FRANKLIN IDR
About
Franklin International Dispute Resolution (IDR) draws inspiration from Sir John Franklin, the renowned English explorer. A pioneering figure in the Age of Exploration, Franklin led daring Arctic expeditions in search of the Northwest Passage—the legendary sea route linking the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. His voyages were profoundly international in scope, connecting distant continents and oceans across disputed polar territories while advancing global trade routes. This mirrors the cross-border legal challenges faced by clients today. Just as Franklin courageously ventured into unfamiliar high-stakes frontiers to connect worlds, our clients boldly pursue opportunities in international markets, navigating complex cross-jurisdictional landscapes with resilience and determination. At Franklin IDR, we provide consulting services to companies, government agencies, and law firms on international dispute matters. Honouring this heritage of bold exploration, we guide clients through intricate cross-border disputes, charting clear paths to successful resolution and transforming uncertainty into new opportunities.

Rockey Yoo
Rockey is a disputes lawyer with two decades of experience.
He previously served as the most senior common law-trained partner in the global disputes practice group at one of Asia's largest law firms, where he handled some of Asia's most complex and high-value disputes. His experience includes energy, construction, financial services, intellectual property licensing, shareholder, joint venture and M&A, manufacturing, and product liability issues.
Notable cases include successfully defending against the bulk of a US$1.4 billion international arbitration claim brought against a state-owned bank by international commodity traders, representing a Korean utility in an investor-state arbitration against the Government of India concerning energy investments (UNCITRAL), and defending a US-based NASDAQ-listed technology company in a high-profile dispute involving fuel cell technology against a major Asian conglomerate.
Early in his career, Rockey litigated hundreds of cases in national courts and received rigorous training in common law advocacy in an energy focused jurisdiction. He possesses a strong interdisciplinary background, with degrees from leading global institutions: a bachelor's degree from the Vancouver School of Economics at the University of British Columbia, a Master's in International Studies from Yonsei University, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Alberta.
Chambers and Partners has recognized his ability to quickly grasp technical subject matter, and a client has credited his deep technical knowledge during cross-examination as the decisive factor in winning a case against a Fortune 500 company. Rockey has successfully faced off against leading English silks and Wall Street litigators in international commercial arbitrations, achieving a strong success rate.
He has extensive experience appearing before major arbitral institutions, including the ICC, LCIA, SIAC, HKIAC, and KCAB, with seats in Singapore, London, Geneva, Seoul, New York, and others.
Rockey also brings unique insight into the challenges facing multinational companies in the Asia-Pacific region, having previously served as Chairman of a major Chamber of Commerce in Asia.
A Canadian national of Korean heritage, Rockey combines extensive common law foundations with specialized insight into complex cross-border and Asia-centric disputes.
